| Aenimal: | A term given to a sentient animal, the name derives from "aenima" meaning "soul". Aenimals distance themselves from their Furrae Kin. |
| Avian: | Anthropomoprhic birds, generally having a moderately upright stance and wings equipped with primitive fingers. |
| Blackemarr: | Originally created by human-kind as a means of transforming radiation into a more harmless material, this fungi-like plant (which glows under varying levels of radiation) distorts the reality around it, unless properly harnessed. |
| Deadlands: | Vast tracts of land where nothing but blackemarr grows and no creatures live, save the mutant strains of cockroach. The Deadlands were the targets for the Human's Deathmachines and the ground, water and air are still poisonous. |
| Elysia (The Light): | Goddess of Life and Fire, Elysia is visually represented as a Phoenix with the face of a human. Her sacred symbol is a spiral circle with rays radiating out, representing the sun. |
| Feral/Going Feral: | Ferals are generally non-sentient morphic children born to Furrae parents. "Going Feral" is a pscyhological behaviour sometimes found when the Furrae undergoes trauma so horrific that the only way to escape is to lose all sense of "humanity" and give way to instinct. |
| Furrae: | Anthropomorphic animal with human intelligence. |
| Huyvris: | Translates as "hybrid" normally between two distantly related species and therefore something of a freak. True Huyvris are fairly rare and believed to be either lucky or unlucky, depending on who is doing the believing. |
| Innate Magick: | Many kits are born with a tendency towards Magickal ability, but some are born with genuine talents, these often exhibit themselves in Lyrical Magic, Empathy, Premonitions (of past or future) and Shaping skills. Some have even stronger talents that require training to control. |
| Kin (capital "k"): | Refers to animals within the same Family - for example; ring-tailed lemurs and black lemurs are both within the Family: Lemuridae, therefore are Kin. Generally speaking, only those sharing the same Kinship groups can hybridise. |
| Mage: | One who is trained in the harnessing and controlling of Magick . |
| Magick: | The energy exuded by Blackemarr. |
| Magitricity: | The energy of the Furrae world is provided with blackemarr as the source and controlled and directed by the use of mystic runes. |
| MONS: | (Ministry of Non-Sentients) are a charity dedicated to the protection of Non-Sentients (and to a lesser extent Aenimals and Ferals) established in many of the cities. They protect non-sentients in all their habitats - wild, farms, pets etc and also undertake the adoption of any abandoned Throw-Backs. |
| Non-Sentient: | Slang term for "non sentient animal". Furrae in general have low regard of their animal relatives. It is the theory of some socialogists that this is a hatred inspired by fear - a reminder of how primitive the Furrae once were. |
| Shaping: | An innate talent to modify certain substances with a mere caress and the intent. The three most common strains are Plant-shaping, in which the Shaper can enhance plant growth and direct it in their manner of choice; Rock-shaping which allows the Shaper to mould Rock like it is little more then clay and Flesh-shaping. Flesh Shapers generally become Healers and can diagnose injuries and repair them without breaking through the skin. All the Shaping skills require extensive training to control, acute concentration and are very rare in the general populace (less then 5% of the population). Rarer Shaping talents are Water Shaping and Air Shaping. |
| Throw-Back: | Every so often a Furrae couple (about 5% of birthrates) will give birth to a Non-Sentient, a Feral or an Aenimal. It is also believed that Non-Sentients sometimes throw Aenimals. These unfortunate offspring are generally abandoned to die, and sometimes picked up by the MONS. |
| Tirra-Inle: | The School of Magick, which stands two kilometres into the Deadlands, accessed by a narrow winding, and enchanted, road. It is built in what was clearly some sort of human learning facility, modified by the art of plant and rock Shaping. Its gardens are truly spectacular, created by generations of mages and near-nigh impossible to navigate for the unskilled. |
| Ungutaur: | Most morphic hooved animals fit into this catergory - they retain the four-footed body of their original species, whilst gaining the upper torso of a human, positioned just above the animal ribcage. |
| Valliklaw (The Dark): | The so-called "Cockroach God", Valliklaw is a refuge for the dark at heart. He represents all that is bitter and cold in the world and visual representatives range from anthro-cockroaches to horrible man-cockroach hybrids. In reality he is truly worse to look upon. |
